1. Senior Provider Group – First Meeting Sept. 9th, 8:30 am
The Senior Provider Group (SPG) is an organization of businesses and individuals providing a wide variety of services to seniors, their caregivers, and their families. The network represents every facet of the growing aging industry and promotes excellence through education, advocacy, leadership, and accessibility. Michael R. Lachance, the Legislative Liaison for the Maryland State Department of Aging, will speak at the first meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 9th at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church at 611 B & A Boulevard, Severna Park. Parking is free and plentiful. Coffee and networking begins at 8:30 am with the featured presentation at 9:00, followed by news and introductions. The continental breakfast is sponsored by Winnie Watkins of Fairfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Crownsville. 2. Free classes from the Grants Collection, Enoch Pratt Free Library
Introduction
to Fund raising Resources, Tuesday
September 16th.
10 am - Noon.
Central Library, Poe Room. Find out about the
treasure-trove of books, magazines, directories and databases
available at the Pratt Library. This session will introduce you to
the Grants Collection, the Foundation Center's information-packed
website and databases, and other fund raising resources for
nonprofits.

Grants Collection at EPFL is a cooperating collection of the
Foundation Center. It contains databases, over 300 circulating
titles, reference materials and periodicals about grant seeking and
grant making, nonprofit management, and related subjects. We are
happy to provide free access to these materials. If you have

3. Joint MCDVS/COVAAC Meeting & Seminar: “The Internet – Where the Future Volunteers All Surf” Part 2 – Tues. Sept. 23rd 1 – 4 pm
Michelle Moore will recap information on wikis, blogs, podcasts, Face Book and YouTube and lead participants in a hands-on opportunity to use social networking websites to improve your volunteer programs. The Maryland Council of Directors of Volunteer Services (MCDVS) and the Coordinators of Volunteers of Anne Arundel County (COVAAC) invite you to attend this joint meeting/workshop featuring Michelle Moore, a Computer Repair Teacher at Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ Center of Applied Technology South. Join us on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, from 1 – 4 pm at Anne Arundel Community College’s Arundel Mills campus, Room 302. Attendance is free but seating will be limited. 4. United Way would like to help you with volunteer projects from 10/1/08 - 11/21/08
United Way would like to ask you if you have volunteer projects available from 10/1/08 - 11/21/08. Ideally these would be projects that a team of people can complete in ONE DAY! Please contact Terri Chaplin at 410-840-2837or Terri.Chaplin@uwcm.org if you are interested in having United Way recruit volunteers for projects that you just don't have time to do. United Way would like to get a general idea of what you would like done and about how many volunteers you would need for your projects.
5. Anne Arundel Community College: 6th Annual Nonprofit Leadership Conference, October 3, 2008, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Over the past five years this event has grown in popularity and is one of the best networking opportunities for organizations looking to strengthen their identity in Anne Arundel County. AACC anticipates another large turnout of community leaders and organizations from the nonprofit sector. The theme this year is Business Strategies to Accomplish Your Mission. The price of $25 includes continental breakfast, lunch, breakout sessions and a panel of Foundation experts. Keynote speaker, Jim Lighthizer, former Anne Arundel County Executive, will address donor cultivation and organizational leadership. 6. SAMSA Announces New Sustainability Toolkit for Grassroots Organizations
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Admin (SAMSA) announces a new toolkit, Sustaining Grassroots Community-Based Programs: A Toolkit for Community and Faith-Based Providers. This toolkit is designed to help grassroots community and faith-based treatment and recovery providers plan for long-term survival. It contains useful tips and planning worksheets that cover strategic planning, organizational assessment and readiness, effective marketing strategies, financial management, fund development and fund raising, and results-oriented evaluations. 7. Volunteer Center Announces an AmeriCorps*Vista Position
The Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County is offering one motivated individual the opportunity to spend a year serving in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County as an AmeriCorps*VISTA (domestic Peace Corps) member. Gain invaluable experience and new skills while expanding youth service learning opportunities and training community volunteers. This is a full-time, 12-month position starting in November 2008. Serve your community by joining a nonprofit organization that is a one-stop resource for service and volunteerism. In return, the AmeriCorps*VISTA member will receive a modest annual living allowance of approximately $11,300, vacation & sick leave, along with extensive training, basic individual health insurance, and federal student loan deferment, as well as a post-service education award of $4725 to help pay for future college courses or student loans.
Some work schedule flexibility and mileage reimbursement are available. Application deadline is October 1, 2008. An online AmeriCorps application process is required.
