1. Volunteer Project Hall of Fame Winners Announced
The fourth Volunteer Project Hall of Fame Celebration was held on November 1, 2007 in Annapolis. This event, at Phillips Annapolis Harbor, was sponsored by the Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County and the Coordinators of Volunteers of Anne Arundel County to honor seven Volunteer Projects that were judged to have had the greatest impact in Anne Arundel County and the City of Annapolis. Israel (âIzzyâ) Patoka, Executive Director of the Governorâs Office of Community Initiatives was the Keynote Speaker celebrating this yearâs inductees into the Volunteer Project Hall of Fame.
2007 Hall of Fame Inductees include: Watermark & Annapolis Maritime Museum âEnvironmental Education Project;â Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services âBack to School Program;â Hospice of the Chesapeake âIn-Patient Vigil Care Team at Baltimore Washington Medical Center;â Partners In Care âJust in Case Emergency Kits Project;â Sarahâs House & Anne Arundel Community College âAmerican Society of Interior Design Project;â âHarmony House,â Anne Arundel Countyâs Family Visitation Center; and a special Legacy Award to Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland âHome Delivery Meal Program in Anne Arundel County since 1974.â For more information about the winners, see www.VolunteerAnneArundel.org

Chance - Submit Your Holiday Volunteer Opportunities and
Donations Requests
Agencies still have the
opportunity to get their submissions into the Volunteer Centerâs Holiday
Volunteer Guide for Fall and Winter holiday volunteer opportunities and
donations requests. These will be compiled into a Holiday Volunteer Guide to be
distributed throughout the community and posted for free downloading on our
website.
To submit an opportunity or
donations request, send your information to Bill
Crabbs at bill@volunteerannearundel.org Holiday opportunities are those
that occur between November 11 and January 6, and they must be submitted by November 9th.
3. Volunteer Maryland Information Session, Tuesday, November 13
VOLUNTEER MARYLAND CAN HELP YOUR ORGANIZATION: Increase services, build new partnerships, maximize resources, and generate volunteers. Attend a public information session to learn how a trained Volunteer Maryland Coordinator can help your organization develop a sustainable volunteer program. Tuesday, November 13, 301 West Preston Street, 15th Floor. Baltimore, MD 21201. 4. Volunteer Management Workshops
The Volunteer Center is offering two volunteer management workshops at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). Attend âSupervising Volunteers,â Class No. CMD 377-Sec.901 on Friday, November 16, 2007, from 9 am to 12:30 pm. Improve your volunteer program by learning the steps to guide and support your volunteers, communicate clear expectations, and ensure that they feel rewarded and recognized. There is a $40 fee.
On Friday, December 14, 2007, from 9 am to 12:30 pm, join us to learn how to show the impact of your volunteer program at âEvaluating a Volunteer Program,â Class No. CMD 378-Sec.901. Discuss ways to generate support for your program and identify its strengths and challenges. There is a $40 fee.
These workshops will be held in CALT Room 132 (Center for Applied Learning and Technology) on the Arnold Campus. Please register for all classes by calling the Community College at 410-777-2325. Modest Needs - Grants for Individuals
Founded in 2002, Modest Needs is
an award-winning charity that works to stop the cycle of poverty before it
starts for low-income workers struggling to afford emergency expenses like those
they have all encountered before: the unexpected auto repair, the unanticipated
trip to the doctor, the unusually large winter heating bill. Modest Needs is
available to legal residents of the United
States or Canada. www.modestneeds.org
6. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development â New Homelessness Resource Exchange
The Department of Housing and Urban Development has opened a new web site, Homelessness Resource Exchange. HRS is an online one-stop shop for information and resources on assisting people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Program guidance and regulations, technical assistance (TA) and training resources, research and publications, and more are available for use by Federal agencies, state and local government agencies, Continuum of Care organizations, homeless service providers, TA providers, persons experiencing homelessness, and other stakeholders. http://www.hudhre.info/index.cfm
7. Family Strengthening Brief Released by the National Human Services Assembly
The National Human Services Assembly has announced the release of "The Parenting Imperative: Investing in Parents So Children and Youth Succeed." Developed with assistance from a working group of practitioners, advocates, and researchers, the 29-page brief is the 22nd in a series on Family Strengthening produced by NHSA.
